THE NORTH STAR WEST, Inc. CANOE GUN

Our Canoe Gun was designed for use in a canoe, boat or on horseback, where limited space and quick handling call for this type of gun. All parts are identical with the standard Northwest Trade Gun with the exception of the 20" barrel and a length of pull of 12 inches. This configuration adds up to a mere 35” overall length and tips the scales at only five pounds. This unique gun was designed by Bob Rathbun in 1994 and was the first Canoe Gun on the market for the discriminating buckskinner, re-enactor and blackpowder hunter. Don’t be fooled by its small size and weight. This is a real gun and will impress you with its easy handling and full strength power. We build this gun to the same high standards as our other long guns and pistols including correct stamps, a single wedding band on the barrel and satin varnish finish. A single ribbed thimble holds the ram rod. We offer it in 20 ga. (.62 cal.) or 24 ga. (.58 cal.) only. It is available finished, in the white or as a Canoe Gun Kit. This gun is also the basis for our "Blanket Gun" and the "Buffalo Runner".

Like the Canoe Gun, the Blanket Gun is custom built to the customer's specifications. Our blanket gun is a modification of the "North West Gun". We build this on special order using an 18" barrel. The stock is cut off 4" past the trigger guard’s rear most finial. These guns do not have a butt plate, and only have one ram-rod pipe. The barrel is available in 20 or 24 ga. only. Ledgend has these guns under the skirts and blankets of "OLD-GABE'S" female Indian friends as they extricated him from the "Dannites".

The Buffalo-Runner is another version of the Northwest Gun. It has a 12" barrel in 20 or 24 ga.. The butt stock is cut at the end of the trigger guard. and there is no ram-rod pipe. We used a photo from Charles Hanson’s book “The Northwest Gun” to create this unique one-handed trade gun.
